Narmacil I – Otoquea Aran Ondonóreo (Narmacil I – the seventeenth king of Gondor)

Narmacil I inherited the Kingship of Gondor in 1226 from his father Atanatar II Alcarin. He also seems to have inherited his father's indolent disposition for in 1240 he declared Minalcar, the son of his younger brother Calmacil, to be the Regent of the realm. Not long after that, Easterlings started attacking Gondor again, so the regent led a great army and defeated them, while king Narmacil stayed behind. Narmacil ultimately became second childless King of Gondor and was succeeded by his younger brother Calmacil.

So here is another one of the kings of Gondor. Just like his father, Narmacil was not an active or capable king, so he is shown sitting comfortably, surrounded by luxury. His name means "fiery sword" so there is indeed a sword in the picture, but it is hanging idly on the wall. The concept of the decorative border is quite similar to that of Atanatar I, but its style is also inspired by Narmacil's name, so it should be reminiscent of fire and swords. I hope it does make that impression. :-)
