For Inktober day 12 "dragon" 🐉 there were so many great possibilities, but most of them far too formidable to do them for an Inktober drawing (especially as I was already falling behind and I wanted to catch up with the prompt list) Therefore I didn't dare to draw any detailed dragon, although it was tempting, but but hopefully I'll be able to do that in a larger picture when I have more time available.

To have it easier, I decided to base my drawing on art by J. R. R. Tolkien himself once more: Several versions of an illustration depicting the Lonely Mountain with Smaug can be found in the excellent book "J.R.R. Tolkien - Artist & Illustrator" by Wayne G. Hammond and Christina Scull.

While consciously mimicking Tolkien's style I made my drawing at least slightly different by depicting a different part of the mountain: Whereas Tolkien drew the Front Gate, my picture shows the western dale with the hidden door higher up.
